every once in a while i see another sign of god ... this one from the train so i did a zoom and prayed for protection from the corruption and anguish it causes so many people

Can't get a job. Or even an hour on hold.

Those in the economic know are aware that California’s ~~sinking~~ sunk.

It's a continuing train wreck, a state run amok politically and socially that's buckling under the weight of crazy high taxes, enormous debt, bankruptcy and unemployment around 12.5%.

And that's the official figure. Methodologies distort and underreport true unemployment by about 5% so these figures must be viewed with that in mind.

In California, if you call the unemployment office, you'll likely get a recording. It's the voice of a woman that's articulate, warm, friendly, pleasant, with a hint of a lilt that informs:

“We’re currently receiving more calls than we can handle. Goodbye.” Click.

And, oh yes, the voice of a woman who doesn't mince words.

First element: The burn. Fire creates the most beautiful balance of black and white. The perfect grey shade. To subdue a piece of matter to a flame, no matter its composition or color, it will most likely turn to grey. Enough grey and colors increase in their vividness and thus one has a more beautiful relationship with that color. Black and white by them selves are startling. "They" say all goes with the two shades. I believe all fight with the shades. Grey allows the color to be the best color it can be. Different shades of grey will expose a more truer intensity of color when stacked up against it.

Second Element: Damien Hirst. World renowned artist, worth approximately $250,000,000, has created very controversial works and is considered one of the worlds current top ten contemporary artists. His work, being massive but simple in its design, allows the user an unusual chance to have a personal relationship with something more grand then themselves. We often only feel personal with things you can fit in your pocket or take with you. Most photography is printed 8x10 mainly because that is a standard format page, but that format exists because its able to be had by one individual. Bigger pages become less personal.

Shit Burned

One of the only exceptions to this is our planets best friend; the Moon. We glare toward it on occasion, maybe when we drive or sitting out side with some friends. Rarely do we reflect on the idea that every single human that ever existed on planet earth with good sight has also gazed on this wonder. They may have seen the Moon before going to war, before getting married, maybe even sitting around a camp fire creating language. The point is we look at the Moon and it belongs to you. Not everyone else, its yours.

Damien allows you to poses his work in this manner. The simple clean cut lines of his Formaldehyde tanks, simple composition of his elements within the box, and in some cases the shear size of them. You may dweal on your own life while gazing into the eyes of a dead preserved sheep. A sheep that, in theory, could last as long as the moon. A shark frozen in space, allowing one to walk around it with no immediate danger.

Third Element: Damien Hirst. Slovenian Artist with a respectable online audience. Creating digital collages, senseless and mindless compositions and selling them online for no more then $5 at a time depending on where you live in the world. He mails these out in postcard form and you then own a piece of art work. He plays on ideas of money, reproductivity, originality (in the sense of what is the original), and distribution, among other things. His work plays out purposely as soul less and mindless, all to allow the viewer to tangibly own a piece of his work.

Both Artists share a few things. Both are trying to capitalize on the art they create, both are creating works for public viewing (whether you own one or can go see one) and both are making this game of art very fucking personal.

D-H Burn

The composition: This video was created in response to the fake Damien Hirst's (for those who don't know either, the first explained Hirst is real) art work that was sent to me as per a winning of an online auction. The auction didn't require an over all increase in financial bidding, but a philosophical input on the item up for bid. The item? A stupid fucking photograph of some doll clothing surrounded by a piece of unusually sized paper with a bunch of bullshit words that say, well pretty much nothing. If you want to take it that way that is. All words have, at some point, have meaning. All images, in some way, have meaning. What one may feel about an image may be different from another. These words could change ones life or do nothing at all.

Regardless, I won this piece because I said "If I win this piece, ill burn it and make a video and call that art....Destroying art is art to me!" Simple, elegant, playful, used knowing a bit about where this artists goes with his mind. I took directly his style of this video minus words because id rather not use words. I burned it and enjoyed watching it burn.

The ashes fell around smoke crept from the image and the beautiful preservation of the created and the recreated was destroyed. Not without maintaining a high resolution scan of the won art, and later a scan of it burned. I watched laughing on the inside knowing that regardless of the idea and the take on that idea, or the idea created in the mind of the viewer(s), that fucking piece of shit was gone! But its not, its there, its every where, its here recreated, its outside in your cities, its everywhere. You can not burn it, just burn from your mind the idea of its existence. Without knowing it exists, existence exists no more. I burn from my mind all that mindlessly exists for the sake of existing. I keep personal all that which I cherish and hold dear to me. Big or small, idealistic or created for wealth, existing and non-existing. All your base are belong to me...
